Yes, Virginia, there is something happening on Saturday. Tribal Nation, formerly One Nation, will come down from Austin to play a brand of reggae that mixes the roots sound with funk, hip-hop, soul and a touch of jazz.

Led by vocalist/multi-instrumentalist Mike Franklin, the Nation has been pumping out crucial sounds for a decade.

When a band delves into roots and culture music such as reggae, it's easy to do one of two things, stick with copying the songbooks of giants such as Bob Marley and Jimmy Cliff or jump on a bandwagon for the sake of attempting to make a buck.

Tribal Nation does neither. The band uses roots reggae as a foundation, but uses considerable imagination and an equal amount of musical proficiency to build on the Jamaica-bred music.
